Creating a creative space.

I was recently ask to create some Grange Home product for a client’s writing studio. All I was told was that the room would feature this wonderful photo of Steve Martin, celebrating a bit of modern art—he is a ‘wild and crazy guy’ whom I have loved forever.

In creating a cot for her, I chose the selvage edge denim and used the reverse (lighter) side for the main body,
running the stripe off center and across the ends at the width. In contrast, I used the dark wash upcycled Levi’s
for the sides, which hug the cot. A new canvas base keeps the structure tight and
ready for years of napping and sitting and creative writing.

I also created an oversized bolster in a graphic yet traditional Peruvian pattern of handwoven wool and alpaca cloth.
The navy, white and black (with a tiny line of purple) picked up the colors in the photo, and added some welcomed softness. Backed in pieced, upcycled Levi’s, it added texture and high contrast to the cot.

I was very happy with the end result and noting from my client’s text message, appears she loves it too.
