Grange Home Climate Beneficial ™ "Black Sheep" Wool Shearling
Grange Home Climate Beneficial ™ "Black Sheep" Wool Shearling
We are thrilled to launch an amazingly rich, soft, plush and gorgeous wool shearling collection featuring Climate Beneficial ™ Wool from Northern California landscapes.
Climate Beneficial ™ is a verification process established by the non-profit, Fibershed, which ensures that carbon farming practices are employed on the landscapes where these Perendale sheep were raised. Carbon Farm Plans provide land steward practices that work to mitigate the impacts of climate change --sequestering atmospheric carbon and creating water-holding capacities for greater soil health.
Each shearling is as unique as the animal from which it came. This shearling’s natural wool (or what you might think of as black or chocolate) is more rare, as most sheep have been raised to be of the ivory color which allows for more flexibility within the wool production process. There is a hint of grey wool on tips of shearling for an extra rich detail.
We are thrilled to offer these rarified hides. The dense staple of wool makes this perfect as a rug yet can still be tossed onto your favorite sofa or chair (or Vintage Sling Chair) to add a bit luxurious comfort.
We work with a tanner in California’s Central Valley to process the hides in an eco-friendly manner, avoiding the use of Chromium which is toxic to the land and the tanners; and keeps our carbon footprint as small as possible.
Lesser Known Fact—black sheep, sometimes called Marker Sheep, are often held by ranchers to help account for the quantity of sheep on landscapes.
One black sheep to every 100 ivory sheep allows a rancher to quickly identify how many sheep are within an area.
