We are excited to launch Grange Home Climate Beneficial ™ Wool Shearlings, developed in partnership with a valued Fibershed producer.
These shearlings are from Perendale sheep who were raised on landscapes that are equipped with Carbon Farm Plans. Honoring the regenerative ag practices that the plans lay out allows the soil to sequester atmospheric carbon back underground where it aids in creating water-holding properties which we know is essential. Soil is life and healthy soil is essential; and these practices work to mitigate the impacts of climate change. It’s hard NOT to support that.
We are also really proud to have managed the end-to-end process of creating the shearlings within a small footprint in Northern California. Our goal is to continue to work as close to ‘home’ between the ranch, tanner and our studio. We employ a tanner who manages a chromium-free tanning process—good for the tanners and our planet.
Perendale sheep are valued for their long and superior fleece and you will understand that clearly when you see how lovely, rich and luxurious these shearlings are—varied in color, staple length and crimp or smooth texture, the diversity of wool is extraordinary. The natural wool (or what you might think of as black or chocolate) is more rare, as most sheep have been raised to be of the ivory color which allows for more flexibility within the wool production process. We are thrilled to offer these rarified hides.
Lesser Known Fact—black sheep, sometimes called Marker Sheep, are often held by ranchers to help account for the quantity of sheep on landscapes. One black sheep to every 100 ivory sheep allows a rancher to quickly identify how many sheep are within an area.
We will be launching a collection of twelve pieces in the coming weeks; feel free to email us with questions. And in the meantime, enjoy our first launch— the Ivory, Crimped & Varigated Shearling—100% Climate Beneficial ™ Wool.
